This year qFLIX Philadelphia 2019 will close with the acclaimed comedy from Italy, MY BIG GAY ITALIAN WEDDING, written and directed by Alessandro Genovesi, at 8:00 PM, Sunday, March 31, at the Perelman Theater at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. Red carpet call for photo ops runs from 7:15 to 7:45pm.

Antonio (Cristiano Caccamo) and Paolo (Salvatore Esposito) live happily together in Berlin and are finally getting married. They decide to celebrate in the small village in Italy where Antonio grew up. While his mother immediately supports his intentions, her husband Roberto, the town mayor, is much more reluctant. Paulo, who has not spoken to his conservative mother in a long time, must get her to the wedding as a condition of the marriage. He sets out on a quest to make a city founded on religious tradition understanding that love is love.  Throw in a couple of wacky roommates and the path to the altar is paved with hilarity, hijinks, and lots of love!  If “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” and “Mama Mia” had a baby it would be this delightfully campy film.

Preceding the featured screening of “My Big Gay Italian Wedding” will be the presentation of the much-anticipated festival and jury awards in the following categories: Best “Female Identifying Subject” Short Film; Best “Male Identifying Subject” Short Film; Best “Transgender and Gender Non-Conforming Identifying Subject” Short Film; Best Documentary; Best Feature Film. This year we will introduce the qFLIX Philadelphia Grand Jury Award for the overall best film.

After the awards presentation we will be screening a powerful short film called “FORGOTTEN CREW: Season 1, ‘Siloam Stories,’” which follows people living with HIV, and the stigma and ignorance the label still carries. Intimate interviews of members of Siloam tell of a place for them to heal by alternative methods, focusing on the mind, body, and spirit and how this healing pool has changed their lives. Founded in August,1995 by Father Don Reilly and Sister Bernadette Kinniry, who stated that she wanted to “Express my gratitude to all who had anything to do with this documentary . . . creating it, participating in it, and helping us to meet more of the broader public. I delight that so many of our ‘friends’ are speaking their own thoughts regarding Siloam and we cherish each whom we have been privileged to meet. They have truly enriched and deepened our own lives. Peace to one and all.” Siloam has existed through private donations for 22 years, and now Siloam is in danger of closing due to lack of funding.
